Privacy Policy

Effective September 25, 2026 · United States

GenieDataFlow (“we”) publishes an independent blog at geniedataflow.com from 1550 Market St, Suite 300, Denver, CO 80202. This policy explains what we collect when you read the site, use the contact form, or join the email list. It is written for readers in the United States, including California residents under the CCPA/CPRA. It is not a GDPR notice.

Information you give us

The contact form asks for your name, email address, and message. The subscribe form on the sidebar asks for an email address only. Both forms post to our server. We also store a honeypot field if a bot fills it, and we discard those submissions without using them as correspondence.

Information collected automatically

When a form is submitted we log an id, timestamp, IP address, user agent, the form type (contact or subscribe), and the fields you sent. The web server may also keep standard request logs (IP address, URL, time, user agent) for security and troubleshooting. We do not run a third-party advertising pixel and we do not load Google Analytics.

How we use information

We use contact messages to reply. We use subscribe addresses to send occasional notes when a new essay is published. We use logs to limit abuse (no more than five submissions an hour from one IP) and to fix errors. We do not use this information to build advertising profiles.

Cookies

The site does not set analytics or advertising cookies. A host or security layer in front of the site may set a strictly necessary cookie to keep the connection stable. You can block cookies in your browser; the essays will still load. Form submissions are stored on the server, not in a cookie on your device.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Hosting and email providers process data only so the site and the inbox work. We may disclose information if a law, subpoena, or court order requires it, or to protect the site from abuse.

California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident you may ask us to know, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and you may appeal a denial. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CPRA, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Send requests to [email protected] with the subject “California privacy request”. We will verify the email matches the one we stored. An authorized agent may submit a request with proof of authorization.

Categories we collect: identifiers (name, email, IP address), internet activity (pages requested in server logs, user agent), and the contents of your message. Sources: you, and your browser when it contacts the server. Purposes: reply, send the newsletter you asked for, security, and debugging. Retention is described below.

Retention

Contact messages and subscribe addresses are kept until you ask us to delete them or until we shut the list down. Security logs are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated. Rate-limit records rotate out after the hour they cover.

Security

The site is meant to be served over HTTPS. Form logs sit in a directory blocked from public web access. No method of storage is perfect; do not send passwords, payment card numbers, or government IDs through the form.

Children

The blog is written for working adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child sent a form, email us and we will delete it.

Links

Essays link to documentation and tools run by other companies, including Microsoft. Those sites have their own policies. We are not responsible for them.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the effective date on this page. Continued use of the site after the date changes means you are reading the new version.
